Hello it's me Cardinal - WRATH and god damn I need a vacation, I just need to go some where to get away from all the craziness that's going on. Oh man I've been thinking of going to this topical island called Banoi which is just off the coast of Papua New Guinea. Banoi is a lush tropical beauty that offers many natural wonders: from verdant rain forest to mountain highlands to virginal white sand beaches. Ah paradise, which is why I'm not going . . . . yeah a trip like that I need to pay way out the fucking ass so the best I can do is just play Dead Island. It's kinda the same except instead of chilling on the beach your killing zombies, eh the both is just as relaxing. Ah dead island like I said it's a tropical paradise the scenery and by scenery I mean graphics are out fucking standing I mean my god just beautiful.
Except for one thing, the game . . . is a complete copy of Fall Out to be specific I think 3 or new Vegas, I really don't know what else to say about it I mean really every thing is Fall Out. So here goes my review on Dead Island, ok so I'm not going to go all out and just keep saying it's Fall Out, it's Fall Out, no, you have got to play it to know what I'm talking about. Anyway off the that topic um besides the whole copycat routine it's still really good, just like all the ads and trailers say you're on an island that's over run by zombies and not just the average tourist I mean real zombies. In the game you play as one of four characters which really influence the way you play the game, now because how important it is to choose I've made a small list of characters, traits, and all info you will need and find in the instruction manual:
Name, Class, Specialty (weapon use)
Description
Sam B, Tank, Blunt weapons
Sam B is a one-hit-wonder rap star that's slowing fading so now he's performing at the Royal Palms Resort. When it comes down to game play pick up whatever big, heavy thing you can and just play a good old game of whack-a-zombie, but what i really like B is that he's really durable, he can take a hit and clear out a whole room of zombies like he can clear out the Apollo. And when he get into his Fury he delivers nothing but one-hit KOs.
Xian Mei, Assassin, Sharp Weapons
Xian Mei used to work in the Royal Palms Resort before the whole zombie infestation, but what she really was is an under cover cop for the Hong Kong Police. She was actually the first character I played as mainly because I like using blades and well she's really fast. When she goes into rage mode she busts out this blade and just slashes mother fuckers with crazy strength.
Logan Carter, Jack of all trades, Throwing weapons
Logan is a former NFL star he was spoiled as hell until his ego got so big that he just said what the hell I'ma go and have a drag race. Besides killing someone he also suffered a serious knee injury putting an end to his football career so now he's in deep depression and haunted by a few demons. So he runs to Banoi to just IDK drink himself to death or something. So pretty sad, oh well, but you should see him when he in his rage mode he obviously throws weapons but, what he throws are exploding knives that blow every zombie around the target the fuck up. yea god damn.
Purna, support, firearms
Last but not least the lovely Purna who was once an officer of the Sydney Police Department after losing her job because of a "justifiable homicide on the line of duty." . . . Ok that's bullshit she shot a freaking child molester with some money and connections and well basically he couldn't been touched, but Purna pretty much said to hell with that and shot him. So now she working as a bodyguard for VIPs in dangerous place around the world. The thing is people hire Purna for more than just her skills, usually by rich guys look for a piece of arm candy to make them look bad ass. Now she has a mad hatred to people with money who think they above the law and to finally ice the pedobear that made her lose her job. And her rage mode will be perfect for that, when she goes into rage mode she use a revolver with unlimited ammo for a short time.
Well that's all of them an I suggest choosing wisely because it can really determine allot except for in game dialog. Now let's see those beautiful graphics, oh man well the most I can say is that if there is a chance in the game where you can just chill and look out on to the beach or where ever you are take it. That is, if your not being attacked by zombies which kinda is all of the time but if you can clear them out quickly you can just chill for a while and look around. Now this is a huge game, really huge, well I don't think it's as big as probably "Shadow of Colossus" but more like . . . . I'm not going to say it it's just big. The whole island is composed of a few areas the Resort, Moresby , Sewers, Jungle, Laboratory, and Prison. Each one is just as infested with the undead as the next and there's also a few human hunters that are just after your stuff and to survive by any means and yes you will have to kill them.
Now I keep saying zombie this and zombie that but I haven't really give any clear detail on what the enemy is well here's the enemy roll call like in "Resident Evil" there are many different kinds of zombies to deal with. There's commons, specials, and sometimes what I would kinda consider as a bosses.
COMMONS
Walkers - Yea these thing are your basic generic zombies that shuffle slowly that are just walking around the island looking for someone to eat. And just like in movies like "Night Of The Living Dead" and again "Resident Evil" (all of them) and the recent match up they did on "Deadliest Warriors" the Walkers are dangerous when in groups. But what pisses me off about these guys is that sometime you don't here them coming I mean they'll groan and moan but in dark places you'll barley hear or see them which just makes them even more dangerous.
Infected - The infecteds are faster than the walkers and will not hesitate to charge you at first glance. The good thing about these guys are they make allot of noise when they're about to attack and take less damage to kill them than the walkers. However they are extremely dangerous and you should be careful to fight them when in close range and because of their speed and agility you can easily lose track of one. But I have a trick that I like to do when one is charging towards me, whenever one is running to you time your kick at the right moment to make them stop in their tracks and at that moment you go ape shit and just beat them back to death.
SPECIALS
Thugs - Thugs are the first kind of special zombie you will encounter in the game, these thing are hulking dudes that will make you fly and fall on your ass with one punch. They deal massive damage and are sometimes backed by some walkers. But there are some advantages and open spots where you can dish out your own attacks. One thing is that they are extremely slow I mean like they freakin crawl so you can easily out run them, another good thing is that their attack is basically one ,two swipes with their fists which you can easily dodge and come back around with a counter attack. Just time your attacks right and use your rage mode and you won't die.
Suiciders - Oh man now some reason I feel sorry this one, the suiciders are people trapped in a disfigure, pulsing body. What sad is that they still retain some awareness and know what's going on and what's friend or foe and just want help but it's that zombie instinct that forces them to get close to uninfected people and self-destruct in their faces. These guy are pretty much self-explanatory just don't get close and you will live just throw something or shoot and they will go down and really I bet they are blessing you for killing them it's just so fucked up.
Rams - Rams, well that just it they ram into you they're huge, have extremely tough exterior and won't give up without a fight. They go after anyone they see that's alive without question, hesitation, or mercy and their only real weakness it this small patch of exposed flesh on their backs. For this guy timing is everything just time it right, dodge and hit 'em in the back.
Floaters - Floaters are zombies that have been under water so long they soaked up more than just sun. They're mostly in sewers and around pounds an lakes in the jungle, their bodes are giant bloats so physical attacks arrant gonna do much you really gotta think when dealing with this kinda fugler. But be careful their bodies release a slime the burns and blinds you but it can also harm other enemies around him so use that to an advantage.
Butchers - Oh god i hate these fucking things they're basically like the infected but over 9000 (Sorry D.A.R but i had to do it.) These things are the meanest zombies you will encounter they basically slice, tear, and rip you apart with what's left of their limbs. Seriously their arms are nothing but sharpened bones, combined with their leaping attacks and time 2 speed these thing are tough to beat with melee attacks and throwing weapons aren't gonna cut it, what you need to do is pump what's left of his guts full of lead.
All named and accounted for so now you now what your up against but you aren't gonna be able to take them out with just a few kicks and punches, no what your gonna need are weapons and luckily for you Dead Island doesn't disappoint. Dead island also makes good use of Dead Raising's weapon mechanics which basically is you can use anything you find as a weapon from sticks, paddles, knives, bats, pipes and etc. What's great about this is you can upgrade each weapon the deal more damage or you can modify weapons with mods you find the island or earn from completing quests, also if you explore the island thoroughly you will find blueprints to make special weapons like electrical weapons or bombs. But you have to have the materials to make them so CHECK EVERYWHERE I can't emphasize this enough I mean if like you are about to die and there's somewhere you can go to heal but there's a suitcase with an item in it in the opposite direction go for the bag, whatever is in the bag will come in handy later trust me.
Another thing I should add is that weapons will undergo wear and tear after each use, meaning the more you kill the less damage your weapons are going to deal so you gotta constantly maintain your weapons by repairing them at work benches. A way you can maintain weapon durability is by upgrading the weapon to last longer at work benches or by leveling up your characters so they can handle weapons more carefully so that they don't just chip away and get damaged. Now trust me durability is key to all weapons the longer you deal maximum damage the longer you will live. Well I guess that's it my vaca is over, now it's time for me to pack up and go back home well Banoi Island you created great memories for me and I'll never forget you like all of you should never forget that this is Cardinal - WRATH saying *yawn* keep gaming.
