THE KING IS BACK!!! What's good fellow gamers and your eyes are not deceiving you the same way they have been for 15 EFFING YEARS!! Duke Nukem has finally returned after 15 years in the making. Those of you veteran gamers might be wondering why they delayed Duke Nukem Forever for so damn long. Here's what was happening: After Duke Nukem 3D was released in May '96, GT Interactive got the publishing rights for DNF in a licensing agreement with 3D Realms. They later announced it for release in 1998, along with a debut trailer at E3 '98. HOWEVER since they were gonna use the Quake 2 engine (3D real-time rendering) they still ended up changing the freaking graphics engine to give it better high quality graphics. Not only that, but publishing rights and the Duke Nukem brand itself was sold back and forth. What delayed it even more was the fact that 3D Realms announced another change to the in-game physics system in 2004. And yet they kept releasing trailers and teasers that at this point might have driven fans insane. To make matters worse, in 2009, 3D Realms laid off the whole DNF development team. 3D Realms later negotiates with Gearbox about the Duke Nukem franchise. Thus, the single player work was completed. Later, all was settled and forgiven between Gearbox and Take-Two followed by the announcement for DNF in 2011. Thus, DNF was released to a anxious but patient audience on June 14th, 2011. And after 15 f$%&*@# years it should be HILARIOUSLY AWESOME RIGHT!??? Well it is. Please keep reading as I tell you about the story. As you might have already guessed, the aliens have returned and are stealing Earth's women, but nothing stands between Duke and his babes. So now Duke has to fight off these alien mother effers just like he did before. The game features weapons such as a golden 1911 pistol (shown in the pic I have here. It also brings a trophy/achievement if you carry it on you through the whole game), an awesome shotgun, a machine gun known as the ripper and other cool guns. explosives include trip mine, RPG, THE DEVASTATOR, and the classic pipe bombs. The game also has interactive challenges that increase Duke's Ego (your health bar). These include, lifting weights, looking at yourself in the mirror, playing pinball, etc. Duke also has "Duke vision" which is basically night vision, HoloDuke which is a disc that creates a hologram of Duke while the real Duke appears to be invisible. There is also beer which reduces damage when consumed, and steroids that make Duke's melee attacks stronger. The multiplayer is also somewhat exciting. With a capacity of 8 players the game modes include Duke match (free for all), Team Duke Match (team death match), Hail to the King (king of the hill), and capture the babe (capture the flag). Multiplayer also allows you to customize your own Duke with different head wear, glasses, shades, shirts, etc. It also features "My Digs" which is a huge mansion with items and accessories you unlock as you reach higher ranks. This includes a variety of babes of different ethnicities and nationalities...I'm not spoiling it.
Well after 15 years in the making, the King has finally returned to a store near you. I'm D.A.R. Jr. and this was my review on Duke Nukem Forever.
